Tungsten carbide, also known as hard metal, is manufactured by powder metallurgy: tungsten carbide powder with cobalt or nickel binder, compacted and sintered under high temperature and vacuum. It is widely called “industrial teeth”.
Tungsten carbide features extremely high hardness and excellent wear resistance, far harder than ordinary steel at room temperature, with outstanding compressive strength. It maintains stable shape under continuous friction, sand erosion and heavy load. However, it is relatively brittle, so grade selection must match working conditions.
It is commonly made into picks, wear plates, cutting blades for mining, construction machinery and agricultural equipment. Compared with steel parts, tungsten carbide components greatly extend service life and reduce downtime & maintenance cost.
